While nothing like the Japanese book that it is based on, the game is very well done and tells an interesting (if not slightly convoluted) story. The combat system is an interesting variation on Final Fantasy's AT battle system that keep the action interesting and provides a decent mix of timing and strategy. The cinematics and music fit the game perfectly and are excellent examples of Square's older works.
